Dear Potential Sponsor,

We are contacting you today with an opportunity to help a volunteer-based grassroots organization celebrate another year in our community. Humboldt Pride will host this year’s Pride Parade and Festival 2010: A Queer Odyssey – Freedom on the Rise in Halverson Park in Eureka on Saturday, September 11. Our community parade will start at noon at 1st and Commercial and continue north along the waterfront, ending with a memorial event inside the park. The festival continues until 6pm and will host a variety of talents including the up and coming Coyote Grace, local DJ Ninja and a whole lot more. We will have vendors, and educational booths and fun for the whole family.

The mission of our organization, in addition to the annual parade and festival, is to educate the public about the history of the GLBT community and promote equality and tolerance for everyone. We intend to unify our locally diverse residents through educational and social events that include educational informational movies, coffee socials, drag pageants, as well as our annual parade and festival. We are also involved in and sponsor various events throughout the year for dates pertaining to our community such as National Coming Out Day, Transgender Remembrance Day, etc.

Since our re-establishment in 2006, we have successfully produced 3 three festivals with parades, held two educational workshops on the HSU campus, and hostedad yearly coffee socials, and drag shows and other awareness gatherings. We have heldosted two Stonewall memorial events and continue to look for new ways to bring our community together. We work with other local organizations with similar ideals to further unify ourselves and to bring forth efforts such as the Humboldt Equality Coalition’s Adopt-A-Highway and Humboldt’s Courage Campaign. We support our local Marriage Equality chapter, PFLAG, Humboldt Transgender Unity, queer student unions and the RAVEN Project.

Our goals for this event are:
o To create a fun place for the whole family to spend their day, complete with music & entertainment, food & beverages, and souvenirs.

o To bring education visibility to our community and its citizens.

o To memorialize those from every community lost in the September 11th tragedy.

o To recruit potential volunteers and board members for our organization.

This event will be our organization’s 4th festival. , but iIt will also mark the 18th continuous year our community in Humboldt has celebrated its diversity. We hope to fill Halverson Park with several thousand people the 2nd Saturday in September, not only to join in our celebration but, this year, also to remember. There will be a ceremony that will include a moment of silence, speakers and a memorial display for the victims of the September 11, 2001 tragedy.
