Dear Business Owner,

We are contacting you today with an opportunity to help a volunteer-based grassroots organization celebrate another year in our community. Humboldt Pride will host the Pride Parade and Festival: DO ASK, DO TELL - A Call To Action at Halvorsen Park in Eureka on Saturday, September 10. The festival kicks off at noon and will continue until 5pm. Entertainment will include a variety of talents including live music, dancing and a whole lot more. The festival will include vendors, educational booths and fun for the whole family.

The mission of our organization, in addition to the annual parade and festival, is to educate the public about our LGBT community and promote equality and tolerance for everyone. We intend to unify our locally diverse residents through educational and social events throughout the year. We are also involved in and sponsor various community events such as National Coming Out Day, Transgender Remembrance Day, and Harvey Milk Day, among others.

Since our re-establishment in 2006, we have successfully produced four festivals with parades, held and sponsored several educational workshops, hosted coffee socials, drag shows and other awareness gatherings. We have held two Stonewall memorial events and continue to look for new ways to bring our community together. We work with other local organizations to further unify ourselves and to bring forth efforts such as the Humboldt Equality Coalition’s Adopt-A-Highway and Humboldt’s Courage Campaign. We support our local Marriage Equality chapter, PFLAG, Humboldt Transgender Unity, queer student unions and the RAVEN Project.

Our goals for this event are:
To provide a fun place for the whole family to spend their day, complete with music & entertainment, food & beverages, and souvenirs.
To create a mini marketplace for vendors and businesses to showcase and sell their products and services to festival attendees.
To have our local businesses show support of the LGBT community through their presence at the festival.
To bring education & visibility to our community and its citizens.
To recruit potential volunteers and board members for our organization.

This will be our organization’s 5th festival. It will also mark the 19th continuous year our community in Humboldt has celebrated its diversity. We hope to fill Halvorsen Park the 2nd Saturday in September to celebrate with our friends and neighbors on the North Coast and show solidarity and support for everyone.
